I’m back and….

Thursday, May 13th, 2010

I’m back from the Frolic yippee!  The show was a huge success!  It was great to see familiar faces from last year and lots and lots of new Indigo Moon yarnies :)

Unfortunately ….I forgot my camera in my room and have no pics to share:( which is extra sad since the booth looked awesome!  Chanterelle lady’s Aeolian shawl in the Autumn Gold muga silk was a hit - I sold almost all the muga I had shipped!  When I got home I received the bad news that this muga silk is no longer available :( .  I will be looking for a new lace wt tussah silk which - although not handspun - will also be 1000-1500 yards per skein and it should dye up similarly.  I am heartbroken about it as I also use the silk in my weaving but oh well….got to roll with the punches I guess.

So it’s been quite a roller coaster over the past week.  I could write a lot more but….need to get back to dyeing as the new Pur Silk was a huge success!

Here are some of the colourways available:

Phew! I made the deadline for yoga class and the Frolic.  I wanted to have a travel sweater that actually fit this time …and yoga starts tomorrow and I thought it’d be nice to have one for that too.  Spent all day yesterday sexwing in ends and putting the pieces together which was…as usual a bit of a challenge.  Firstly, I was using up smallballs of yarn duh! I won’t do that again for a sweater…way too may ends.  And secondly, I cast on for a sweater one size smaller….of course I didn’t realize it till the first fron panel was almost done so…I ripped back and made the front the back and cast on extra stitches for the front.  Since I had a deadline (and a sprained thumb) I couldn’t just start from scratch. So the seam is not where a normal seam would be but is about 2″ out.  Oh well no one will know but everyone that reads my blog!  Anyway it warm, comfy and great for travel, shopping and yoga ….obviously I don’t dress too stylish :) …more like Ugly Betty in her early days than Ugly Betty now.  (btw I’m so sad to see that show go!)

Here’s some pics:

Silken Pleasure….

Tuesday, February 16th, 2010

Yesterday I took the “day off” to paint a kitchen that was in dire need of paint for a number of years…not so much a “day off” but an exhausting ordeal…..the kitchen looks great though it’s only about half done.  Looking at paint chips for the past while has provided me with a ton of name suggestions which…frankly….don’t make a lot of sense, or fit any type of categorization…but I think it’ll work.  The Silken Pleasure yarns I dyed last week are all exquisite and if left to my own devices I would call them things like”exquisite”, “fabulous”, “mind blowing” :)  So to come back down to Earth a bit - after floating around in ecstasy when taking the yarns out of the dyebaths…I think these new names make more sense.  However…saying that….I can always change my mind if I like :)  one of the perks of being the dyer and business owner :)

So here goes….

spring-bud-green.JPG

To pay homage to all the buds that are popping on the trees out here on the balmy Pacific West Coast….”Spring Buds Green” in  Silken Pleasure - an exquisite  50/50 blend of merino wool and mulberry silk in a worsted wt yarn.   Outstanding to knit and wear as a scarf, sweater, mitts…pretty much anything you’d like.  I have limited quantities of each colourway and when they are gone will be taking orders.

Happy shopping!

Power back

Monday, January 18th, 2010

Lost our power with the windstorm last night and now we’ve got lights again!  Woo HOO!  So I’m off to finish dyeing the last few skeins of the Yarn Club…I’m pretty excited about this.  Can’t show you any pictures as it’s a surprise for February :)

cheers

What have I been doing?

Monday, January 11th, 2010

As some of you may now, my dye area has been out of commission for a bit due to unforeseen circumstances so…I’ve been spending the bulk of my time weaving.

shawlette0003.JPG

Some towels in 2/8 cotton.  I haven’t woven towels for a few years and have been quite enjoying it….even the 500 strands that need to be threaded then sleyed :)

And this scarf was sent off to The Port Theatre in Nanaimo for display.  It was handwoven using my handspun yarns with hand dyed silk….then I heavily fulled it in the washing machine.  I really like how it turned out.

I think I need to wear my glasses when I take pics as most seem kinda blurry…sorry about that.

And some towels I just cut off the loom….

And some more….

So that’s how I spent the holiday season….how about you?
