Animals in Haiti

Thursday, January 21st, 2010

Just a reminder that the animals need our help too!  Aid is pouring in for the people of Haiti which is fabulous…but we must remember all the animals that have been injured and lost at this time.  And those that will be left to fend for themselves (likely injured and dying) while the focus is on humans.  There are many animal organizations collecting for relief.  My favorite is www.WSPA.ca   They are on the ground in Haiti (and throughout the world).  Other organizations such as www.IFAW.com and www.NoahsWish.org are also excellent…if you can’t choose, send to all of them!  They’ll be sure to work together.

I have been doing my part by donating a portion of all sales (not net profit or gross profit as others do…as there is no profit yet!) over the next few months in support of relief efforts.

Be generous…give with your heart…today and everyday of your life!

cheers

SPCA donations

Thursday, August 20th, 2009

Just a quick reminder that this summer (June thru August) a portion of all proceeds will be donated to the local and BC SPCA…..and if you don’t need any yarn right now…please donate directly to your local SPCA instead….all shelters are in dire need of our help at this time…and especially in this economy when so many are giving up their animal companions.

June specials and donations

Friday, June 5th, 2009

Until June 19th, while quantities last, all Mulberry silk colourways are 20% off through my online store    http://www.indigomoonyarns.com/index.php?cPath=36_21

with a purchase of Saccade’s Chatelaine pattern through her Ravelry store. http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/chatelaine

Please mention in the “notes” ssection of your order that you have purchased the pdf from Saccade.

All proceeds from sales of the pattern go to The Nature Conservancy - thanks to the generosity of Saccade.
A percentage of all silk sales will be donated to our local SPCA. Sadly there has been a remarkable increase in the number of abuse and neglect cases with the animals found in the worse possible condition. So for this month a portion of all sales - not just of the silk - will be donated to the Nanaimo shelter in hopes that it will help some of these animals get a new lease on life.

Snow falling…again….

Saturday, January 3rd, 2009

It’s quite amazing….our normally temperate climate is getting a bit more snow as I type, and the snow from Dec 12 is still here….our little island received a dump of 24″ since then,? in the 60 years records here….that is the most snow we’ve ever had - and so early!? So with the cold and snowy weather my dyepots are still cold.? It has, however, ?allowed me to do other things that need?doing…but I’d really like to get some more Bombyx silk dyed in Charcoal - Syvia Harding really loves this colour and is working with it right now, so I was hoping to have it at 3BF before they reopen next week….stil there are many colours to choose from - and they have them all! Knotty in Victoria has some as well, though only a couple skeins of each.
I receive a lot of daily mailings - and would really like to share them with you - so I thought I would post a link each time, or most times, I post.? This weeks link is http://december18th.org/?please visit and sign if you are so inclined.?

Unfortunately there were no sales for Jan 1, 2, 3 etc …so no donations to make to Dhanna Metta Rescue Society…that is really too bad as I was really hoping to send them a check on their 1st year anniversary?- we’ll feature them again one month, and hopefully we’ll have some sales!? And the online prices were amazing since all semi-solids (until Jan 15) are 20% off - what a perfect time to stock up on some kettle-dyed yarn for that sweater or shawl you’ve been wanting to make for yourself.? http://www.indigomoonyarns.com/index.php

I? was happily knitting along at quite a steady rate, and had about 7 more inches knit up on my organic top…..when I realized they wanted SS 7 inches from the start not 7″ from the end of the lace…which is what I thought…..so I had to rip-it back…arrgghh! all those hours of knitting!? but it had to be done, otherwise the top would have been more like a mini dress…and that wasn’t the look I was after!

Next project - the sudoku tapestry - is at a standstill.? Tapestry is extremely slow going, and for the size of the panels I’d like to make, well getting 1/2″ done in 3 hours just isn’t cutting it for me…so back to the drawing board…I’ve got some other plans percolating in my brain…we’ll see what comes out.

And today (as soon as I finish posting) I’ll be working on this shawl.? It’s the fingering wt merino in the?new darkened colourway called….uh…I never named it before?balling it up!? It’s got shades of purple, blue and black in it ….any thoughts?? I’ll just be doing a straight twill as the loom is being held together by tape and I don’t want to get too fancy?in case the lamms and shafts break apart.? Last week?the loom was changed over from a jack set-up to a counterbalance set-up…and now I remember why I changed it to the jack set-up…some?screws are missing, cords?frayed, and hooks broken.? Last year at this time I changed it over, but never got around to ordering new parts…it takes quite a while to get them as the company doesn’t take visa and I have to send a check, after getting the total, clear across the country before they?ship out the pieces…and well with so much of a wait time, I get frustrated and move to something else.? This time the loom is at least taped together for a bit…depending on how?long the?tape lasts!

Here are the shawl pics:

Now off to weave…have a great weekend and don’t forget to check out the?kettle-dyed merino on sale ?

Dhana Metta Rescue Society - our January 1st charity

Tuesday, December 30th, 2008

This is an excerpt from the Indigo Moon Yarns group on Ravelry, Tricia kindly gave us a thorough explanation of what the Dhana Metta Rescue Society does.?

The Dhana Metta Rescue Society is a Non-profit animal rescue based in Vancouver.

?We can think of our society as a body, with arms and legs as parts of it. Of course, the arm is different from the leg; however, if something happens to the foot, the hand must reach down to help. Similarly, when something is wrong with our society, we must help. Why? Because it is part of the body, it is part of us?.

?In Buddhism, Compassion is defined as the wish that all beings be free of their suffering. Unfortunately, it is not possible for us to rid the world of it?s misery. We cannot take the task upon ourselves, and there is no magic wand to transform the affliction into happiness. Yet we can develop our own minds in virtue and thereby help others do the same.?

His Holiness the Dalai Lama

We are pleased to announce Dhana Metta Rescue Society as the next generation of animal rescue societies. We are a registered non-profit society, dedicated to small & medium dogs throughout Canada & the United States. Our focus in the U.S. are mostly natural disaster survivors, who unfortunately run out of time at the over crowded shelters.

Our hopes are not only to help abused, neglected, special needs and senior dogs/cats, but to also hold educational workshops for the public on:

a) The importance of proper training and care of domestic pets

b) How we can all help prevent pet over population by spaying and neutering

c) The negative effects of puppy/cat mills and back yard breeders

d) How working together can make a change in the regulations & laws regarding animal cruelty

As we continue to grow and establish ourselves, we hope to see rescue work as a communal endeavor. Each and every animal in need should receive help, from all of us. We will work together with other rescuers and shelters, all in the name of the animals.

To practice non-violent communication, peace, empathy, and compassion in our everyday lives and throughout our journey in animal rescue.

Thank-You to Action for Animals in Distress Society for being one of the first Rescue Societies to show us that working together really does make a huge difference.

To reach us, you can send an email to: dhanametta@yahoo.ca

Currently, we are raising funds for Paisley, a Poodle that came into our care a month ago. We just discovered that she has a very old hip injury that needs to be treated. At some point when she was a puppy, her hip dislocated and her owner at the time (a hoarder) did nothing about it, and now, she requires reconstructive surgery on her hip. Fortunately, this is not painful for her at all and has not slowed her down. She is a very happy little girl and is also looking for her forever home. So, any little bit will go towards her surgery. Trish, I thank you for this and the animals thank you for this.

January specials …a day early…and 10% of all proceeds go to….

January Online Specials

Since January 1st is a recovery day (after New Year?s Eve) I thought I would post the specials a day early. Specials run from Jan 1st-15th, 2009 while quantities last.

If you are going to be away on Jan 1 and would like 10% of your purchase to go to the Dhanna Metta Rescue Society mentioned above, you can place the order at http://www.indigomoonyarns.com/index.php on Dec 31st?and the prices will be adjusted to reflect the discount.

Well I thought long and hard about this special and ?couldn?t decide?so instead of choosing one colour, ALL kettle-dyed semi-solid fingering wt merino is 20% off ?while quanitites last.

And please cross-post these specials to any knitting-friend you have that is interested in fingering wt merino - this would be a great time to try Indigo Moon yarn if she/he hasn?t already. I?m not quite sure how to let people know about the online specials if they are not on our group list?.so if you have ideas about reaching others, please let me know that too.

Oh and another bonus, for our US customers ?.all prices are in Canadian funds which means extra savings. (Thanks to Miss Daisy for that reminder.)

Happy shopping?

Monthly donations

Saturday, November 29th, 2008

Starting Dec 1, 2008, for the first day of every month over the next year I will donate 10% of all online sales for that day to charity.? There are, of course, many many charities to choose from so to start, for this year all donations will be made to Animal Rescue/Relief/Welfare organizations in Canada.? This will not be 10% of the profits (since as of yet I am still not making a living wage so there aren’t any profits!) but 10% of all online sales on the first day of each month.

For December 2008 the charity of choice is the Island Wildlife Natural Care Centre on Salt Spring Island in British Columbia.? As with many other charitable organizations, donations are way down as people are concerned about the economy…the animals still need us no matter what the economy is doing…and no matter what the economy is doing, we still have abundance.? So if you want 10% of your?purchase to go directly to IWNCC please shop online on December 1st.?

To find out more about the work IWNCC does please visit http://www.sealrescue.org/

Thank you so much?for your support.

Trish
