Well….thought I was dyeing more of the “Rival Green” but it turned out far more blue than last time. OK I have to admit that I don’t use a scale - I dye like I cook - mostly by eye and feel so….I’ve decided to call this colourway “family” Blue Spruce. Sometimes it will be lighter, sometimes darker, sometimes more green, sometimes more blue, but regardless…it still looks like a variation on a blue spruce tree to me.
I just shipped off a lot of”Rival Green” to Urban Yarns …so if you are looking for Blue Spruce, it’s the same colourway just a different name…and I promise not to change the name ….at least for while anyway :)
cheers

Here’s a cute link….and as always for me…a tear jerker
“Realizing there are no words to convey the wonder and mystery of Antarctica — what it is like to be amidst such an abundance of wildlife that is totally unafraid of humans — I pass along this video, taken on the sub-Antarctic island of South Georgia, showing a remarkable and loving interaction between a young (”weaner”) elephant seal (probably weighing 300 pounds) and the lovely young woman who was the “hostess” on our ship (ran all the hotel aspects of our voyage, but also loved to get on land and be with the animals). Video was taken by her husband, who was also our excellent chef. This video was taken last November — so not on our just completed voyage — but at a place we have been– and probably one of my favorite places on this planet. This video says it all. Watch it first for the seal, and then again for the penquins in the background.”

I was going to post about yarn today and get to work in the studio however, after weeks of overcast cloudy days the Sun is out!!!!! So ….I may have to be outside today at least for part of the day. But here’s a peek at some of the Spring colours…just to whet your appetite.

Shown clockwise is Marigold sport wt, Wasabi fingering wt, Logwood purple and Cochineal pink. Perfect for Spring! Our crocuses are starting to pop through the soil and the birds are singing and and and ….guess I really should take my camera outside. Well off to ship Urban Yarns some yarn…and to go outside for a bit!
cheers

I received this link again today - and each time I do I realllyyy want to share it with you - but I don’t. Why? Because I am told it is not expedient to attach myself to anything political as a “business person” …problem is, is that everything I do is a vote for something or another. And that is not just in my life, but in every person’s life - every choice we make, makes a statement whether we like to think it is does or not. So…I am going to take a deep breath, and hit “publish”. I will title blog postings with political links “political” -so if you want to bypass it you can do so more easily. I will still likely filter the political posts as I am still afraid (and receive many worthwgile links each day). I hope that you will continue to purchase yarn from me. I am a pacifist and an organic vegan…so I’m pretty harmless. My views may be radical but that is only because they are not the norm…they are the norm of generations gone by. I am a back-to-the-lander - walking as gently as possible on the Earth. I am someone that believes everyone can grow at least something to eat no matter where we live. And Iam someone who believes that even someone - as small as me - can make a difference. So here goes…

If you have visited my studio or booth at a show, you will have noticed yarns not available online. This month I am introducing traditional wool yarns dyed with natural dyes…actually reintroducing would be more accurate. I have been hand dyeing a worsted wt Canadian merino wool yarn for years and have now decided to make it available online. There will be other Canadian wools available - sometimes Dorset, sometimes Romney, but mostly Merino - none are superwash so you get the traditional feel of a knitting yarn. It is lofty, full of lanolin, and quick to knit up with 4-5mm needles. Great for hats, and scarves and sweaters too! So now you have a choice!
And prices start as low as $12….yes I thought you might like that J

Just something I’d like to share….it arrived in my email box at the perfect time. Cheers
Dancing With God
When I meditated on the word Guidance,
I kept seeing “dance” at the end of the word.
I remember reading that doing God’s will is a lot like dancing.
When two people try to lead, nothing feels right…
The movement doesn’t flow with the music,
and everything is quite uncomfortable and jerky.
When one person realizes that, and lets the other lead,
both bodies begin to flow with the music.
One gives gentle cues, perhaps with a nudge to the back
or by pressing Lightly in one direction or another.
It’s as if two become one body, moving beautifully.
The dance takes surrender, willingness,
and attentiveness from one person
and gentle guidance and skill from the other.
My eyes drew back to the word Guidance.
When I saw “G”: I thought of God, followed by “u” and “i”.
“God, “u” and “i” dance.”
God, you, and I dance.
As I lowered my head, I became willing to trust
that I would get guidance about my life.
Once again, I became willing to let God lead.
My prayer for you today is that God’s blessings
and mercies are upon you on this day and everyday.
May you abide in God, as God abides in you.
Dance together with God, trusting God to lead
and to guide you through each season of your life.
This prayer is powerful and there is nothing attached.
If God has done anything for you in your life,
please share this message with someone else.
There is no cost but a lot of rewards;
so let’s continue to pray for one another.
And I Hope You Dance Through 2010

After some crazy dyeing last week the last of the skeins are almost dried - so all shipments will go out Mon or Tues this week.
And I was asked to clarify about the “buying and selling terms” for the Yarn Club. You are welcome to trade and sell the colourways amongst current Yarn Club members if you like - just not in public on Ravelry as the subscribers paid to have access to the colourways before the general public….if I chose to release them eventually. Sorry for any confusion about that. I don’t know how the trading/selling would work as I can’t give out my client list - but maybe you have an idea?
…now off to label what’s dry
Cheers

Just a reminder that the animals need our help too! Aid is pouring in for the people of Haiti which is fabulous…but we must remember all the animals that have been injured and lost at this time. And those that will be left to fend for themselves (likely injured and dying) while the focus is on humans. There are many animal organizations collecting for relief. My favorite is www.WSPA.ca They are on the ground in Haiti (and throughout the world). Other organizations such as www.IFAW.com and www.NoahsWish.org are also excellent…if you can’t choose, send to all of them! They’ll be sure to work together.
I have been doing my part by donating a portion of all sales (not net profit or gross profit as others do…as there is no profit yet!) over the next few months in support of relief efforts.
Be generous…give with your heart…today and everyday of your life!
cheers
